Fashion photography – a strong genre

When photographs began to appear on the pages of the world fashion journals, Vogue and Harpers Bazaar, in the 1920s, they took their place here next to fashion sketches, which they later completely replaced. They couldn’t just be photos of clothed women, they had to know how to express the tailor’s design, elegance and the fashion of the day overall. They had to teach how to stylise, to slip into the world of fashion, where until that time sketches (and prior to that lithographs and etchings) ruled as the only image tool for dissemination of fashion trends, houses and designers of haute  couture.
