Leica Gallery Prague
On 29 May 2002 the Leica Gallery Prague was opened in the Supreme Burgraviate at Prague Castle. The Director Jana Boemerová and her colleagues thus managed to build up the largest and most prestigiously located Leica gallery in the world. When the exhibition programme was still run by Prague Castle Administration, a number of important photography expositions were held in the Supreme Burgraviate: retrospectives of Inge Morath, William Klein, Erich Lessing, Miroslav Hucek, Pavel Baňka and Karel Cudlín; thematic exhibitions showing the work of Josef Koudelka and Antonín Kratochvíl; the exhibition Certainty and Seeking in Czech Photography of the 1990s and others. Leica Gallery Prague was opened with a humanistic exhibition of the top American photographer Mary Ellen Mark, author of many books of documentary and portrait photography. In mid-July the Peggy Sirota exhibition, devoted mainly to portraits of celebrities, was opened. Leica Gallery Prague also represents a number of Czech photographers, whose work can be purchased in the gallery.
