Viktor Kopasz
Deníky (1989–1992)
At the beginning, I had no ambition to present these visual diaries because they related only to the closest friends who surrounded me at that time. The photographs were actually made for my friends. But of course they were also a means of childhood; how to perceive the world most intensively. In the first phase, these books were spontaneous journals. Later, they were constructed as sketchbooks or visual scripts. And in their final phase, their nature took the shape of a visual, experimental author’s book. The books are interconnected with notes and Lettrism in four different language variations, and they serve as a tool for finding the coordinates in a complicated central European identity. It was also the beginning of my work with the book medium, which later developed as a personal history from a forgotten periphery in eastern Slovakia (former Czechoslovakia).
