#8 Landscape

Landscape can be conceived as the scenery of an escape from the city, as the post-industrial arena of contemporary quests for connections between modern-day layers of civilization and the underlying notions of romanticism, or as a natural backdrop for the projections of the self. In recent decades, landscape photography has seen the return of new conceptual approaches. These post-conceptualist efforts now regard photography as the final product. Their interventions into landscape are not huge or dramatic, yet they are intended to convey more than a mere aesthetic experience. Often they play a game with the viewer, yet this is a game the meaning of which the viewer must put into question, in order to get through to the next level of the artist’s strategies.
