The blinding pathos of illusion

Provided this issue of the magazine discusses the relationship between photography and painting, in the Czech milieu one cannot forget (and on an international scale one cannot not point out) the work of Theodor Pištěk. Although the “photorealist” phase of his work was only a matter of less than a decade and actually only counts for one episode in the scope of his life’s work, he is still today welcomed with admiration, which was however often earned at the price of superficial understanding of its actual content.
