Ľubomír Lukčo
The Complex Stories of Photography
The story of photography – a title which to any local readers remotely interested in photography will evoke the now-legendary book by Daniela Mrázková. First published in 1985, it presented a gripping narrative of both the personal lives and artistic careers of certain key figures and defining moments in the history of world photography. Not even thirty years have passed since the book was published and seminal events – the advent of digital photography and the Internet – have subsequently and dramatically intervened in the peaceful narrative of photography with the virulence of a plague, instantaneously contaminating the entire world. Photography no longer has a single narrative, but rather surrounds us in its diverse forms, intersecting and overlapping with other media.
