Melon-Sized Corn, Orange Rain and a Two-Headed Baby
If Monsanto were a villain, its cinematic depiction would be on par with other current popular antagonists. The name of this global American corporation which trades mostly in agricultural pesticides, genetically modified seeds, and pharmaceutic products has appeared in a large number of documentaries and activist films, especially in connection with Monsanto’s breaching of ethical and health standards. Monsanto’s prominent trespasses include the production of a pesticide which the US army used at scale under the name Agent Orange in the Vietnam war. In many regions of Vietnam, the locals still suffer from various handicaps and health consequences due to Agent Orange contamination. Thus, both its present and its past make Monsanto the perfect candidate for an investigation of a scope corresponding to the company’s global nature.
