Shalva Nikvashvili likes to provoke. He plays with identity, masks, the body, and his position as an “artist”. His performative work, which could also be seen in the SVĚTOVA 1 gallery in Prague, abounds with BDSM costumes and manifestos criticising the art world. He has become a celebrity on Instagram – despite numerous bans for sexual content, Nikvashvili’s explicit posts are paradoxically what works best on the Web. His anti-positioning in contemporary art is similarly outrageous and alluring.
