#7 New staged photography
The title “New Staged” photography is deliberate, in order to differentiate the contemporary approaches to staging from the past. There has been a considerable shift in this area of photography both internationally and within the Czech scene. What is it that makes photographers and artists stage their images? The reasons are manifold and the present issue offers a reflection on the ways in which they have been changing in relation to their time. In recent years there appeared radically novel approaches to staging and construction in photography. Eminent international artists whose work continues to inspire younger generations include Jeff Wall and Philip-Lorca diCorcia, who use different approaches to question the seemingly objective visual record or documentary photography.
