Flesh on Flesh

When I first heard about “cultured meat”, it was in 2018. Back then I was living in New York, working for the Research & Development department at the Museum of Modern Art – no global pandemics, no war in Ukraine… it feels like it was aeons ago.

video, 5’, 5.1. surround sound, Meat is Not Murder is a short film narrating the dilemma faced by an animal rights advocate and hardcore vegan when confronted with the possibility of eating cellular-grown lab-made meat. The film echoes contemporary issues surrounding queer reproduction and gestation, fears of artificiality in biotech, and the fluidity between human and nonhuman bodies.
