Theresa Schubert
(Thou Shall Not) Taste Thy Neighbour, or the Opening of Venus in Times of Climate Crisis
Theresa Schubert’s artistic work can hardly be given the simplifying labels of research or activist art, or pigeonholed as digital art. The reason for this ambiguity is the complexity of form, content and communication strategies with which the artist approaches her work. Whether it is an artistic exploration of natural-social phenomena, such as the relational network of the forest or the communication of fungi, the artist always reaches for a wider range of theoretical perspectives and creative tools. This is no different in the case of the gesture of biting into human flesh where such a shocking moment for many opens up a space for the search for sustainable ways of functioning on a threatened planet.
