Photography may make distant events appear closer but it may also distance and veil those that are near. The long and complex history of the photographic medium’s use in political and social propaganda raises many questions. How can we avoid loosing contact with reality in a world of information-channel networks? Is it possible to help people using only a ray of light? Is it possible, some fifty years after the Family of Man, to pursue humanist photography?
