Jan Hudeček
Between Surrealism and Meditation
The majority of photographers who stood out in their field in the 1980s, but about whom we stopped hearing after 1989 and have by now forgotten, either began to intensively focus on advertising photography, or they did not find a way to navigate through and present their work under the new conditions. Jan Hudeček did not even get a chance to show how his work would have developed further in the new social climate – he died suddenly and tragically in August 1989 at the age of thirty-three, when he was robbed and brutally murdered by a random hitchhiker. His work thus remained at a permanent standstill, as had happened a few years earlier to Jan Pavlik and is also the case of the recently deceased Adam Holý.
