Věra Samková

As is well known, for art historians the period from the 1970s and 1980’s is one that is very difficult to research. Often it completely lacks any sort of printed documents on the realisation of an exhibition. In those decades works shown only in unofficial spaces such as ateliers or in the halls of peripheral cultural centres outside the reach of the totalitarian cultural policy were many times not documented or published. Věra Samková (1956–1996) could rank among the somewhat underappreciated, though very interesting, artists, who during the period of normalisation developed conceptual tendencies. (From her work) remain only fragments, as if records of interventions, partial evidence of her events and incomplete information about her personal life. What do we know about her?
