The abbreviation M+M denotes the creative collaboration of two German artists – Marc Weis (1965) and Martin de Mattia (1963). Their work is broad in scope, and photography is only one of the media the artists employ.

We have selected two projects from their work, based around the same principle. These were created by a conversion from different original media to the photographic image. In the case of their cycle In front this is television broadcasts, broken down into individual ”images“ creating a photographic tableau, and in the case of Kurz vor fünf (Shortly Before Five) it is film footage, the source of a sequence of small photographs that together form the final picture.
