Cars

Photographs of cars fall into different, fairly clearly defned genres, but their admirers, stimulated by the myths behind various brands and often nostalgically longing for older expressions of masculinity, all tend to look for confrmation of human exceptionality in a construction race with nature, chasing after an embodiment of strength, speed and elegance. In a similar manner, many of the photographs forming the basis for such Facebook groups as Abandoned and Neglected Vehicles (89,282 members) primarily serve as an auxiliary tool for treasure hunters, who, in an ideal situation, return a car to its former glory or, conversely, shed tears over the impossibility of doing so. Either way, the photographers and the consumers of their work all love cars and the idea of strengthening their own identity – the identity they obtain through their association with cars.
